The Company was in the early stages of developing a new single meal foil pack pet food. A requirement of the proposed process, was to stack trays of product into special trolleys that had to be manually loaded at the end of each production line, in a continuous flow.

None of the scissor lift suppliers approached by the Company were able to provide a solution that could meet the dimensional constraints of the application or the requirements demanded by the food hygiene standards.

As a result Saxon undertook to work with the Company’s Project Engineers to design and manufacture a special solution to comply with the stringent requirements.

A compact multiple scissor lift platform was engineered to operate within a low profile baseframe, that included wheel guides and location stops to suit the special trolleys.

The lift mechanism was designed to raise and lower within the straddle dimensions of the trolley, in order that the trays of product could be manually stacked into the magazine, by an operative working hands-free utilising a foot control unit to lower each tray to suit.

To comply with the foods hygiene standards and the daily high pressure water hose down regime, the design was self-draining, with all welds continuous or sealed, the lift platform fabricated from stainless steel, the scissor mechanism shot blast and hot zinc sprayed, with all wearing parts machined from stainless steel, and the armwheel roller bearings sealed.

All fitted electrical components were supplied to IP-65 marine standard.

The initial seven units worked so well, the order has twice been repeated due to factory expansion.
